Youth Pastor Charged with DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide Following Fatal Crash with 8-Year-Old Daughter

In a tragic incident on January 17, Joel Isaias Leiniz, a 38-year-old youth pastor, was arrested in connection with a DUI crash that resulted in the death of his 8-year-old daughter. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported that Leiniz was allegedly driving at 104 mph on South Military Trail near West Palm Beach when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2017 Audi Q7, causing it to crash into a concrete pole. The accident occurred around 9:55 p.m., and all four occupants were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Tragically, 8-year-old Zoe Alaya Leiniz succumbed to her injuries shortly after the crash.

Leiniz, who works in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, is now facing charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. During a court hearing, his defense attorney, Anthony Genova, described Leiniz as a grieving newly-widowed father, noting that his wife had passed away from cancer less than a year prior to the incident. Leiniz, who had resigned from his job to spend more time with his family, was questioned by Circuit Court Judge Donald Hafele regarding his employment status and the circumstances surrounding his resignation. The judge set Leiniz’s bond at $150,000, while the prosecutor had requested a bond of $200,000.
