Mt. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church recently traveled to Prentiss, Mississippi, to continue its community outreach ministry. Members of the congregation set up tents near the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store to distribute free food, water, and other essentials to residents in the area.

The initiative was inspired by a vision held by the church’s pastor, which encouraged the congregation to extend its ministry beyond the physical walls of the church to serve people in nearby neighborhoods. Tijuana McLaurin, a member of the church, noted that the group decided to act as the body of Christ by bringing the kingdom of God to the world and to local people.

McLaurin explained that the church chose to go to the community rather than waiting for community members to come to the church. She stated, “Somebody has to stand, somebody has to say ‘Lord, it is us,’ and that’s what we decided to do as the body of Christ, bring the kingdom of God to the world and to the people, because not everybody is going to come to church.” She added, “A lot of times we wait for them to come to church, but the problem is we don’t go. So when we go, they come.”

This approach aligns with the biblical principle of seeking the welfare of the city and caring for those in need, as reflected in Jeremiah 29:7. By providing practical necessities such as food and water, the church is demonstrating neighbor-love through tangible action, echoing the sentiment in James 2:17 that faith is shown through works.

The church has announced its next scheduled event, which will be a school- and county-wide prayer session. This gathering is planned for August 15th from 12 to 2 p.m. at Collins High School.

The outreach in Prentiss represents an ongoing effort by Mt. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church to serve its local community through direct provision and spiritual engagement. The church’s activities focus on meeting immediate physical needs while maintaining a presence in the broader community.
