Former Youth Pastor Wanted on Child Sexual Abuse Charges
A former youth pastor is wanted on two counts of child sexual abuse, according to court documents. Andrew Benton, who served as a youth pastor for the Assembly of our Lord Jesus Christ, is accused of inappropriate physical contact with two teens in his care over multiple incidents since 2024. The allegations include instances where Benton touched the teens and encouraged them to touch his body.
Duncan police contacted the Oklahoma state Bureau of Investigation in March 2026 to investigate Benton. Investigators allege that some of the incidents occurred during church functions, at hotels, and in Airbnb accommodations. The abuse reportedly took place in various settings, raising concerns about the oversight of individuals in positions of trust with minors.
One of the alleged victims reportedly reported inappropriate contact with Benton in February 2026, leading to the revocation of his ALJC license. The investigation also revealed that Benton had invited one victim to his home under false pretenses before allegedly assaulting them in his bedroom.
Court documents state that a search of Benton’s phone uncovered thousands of messages between him and one of the alleged victims. These messages included inappropriate and pressuring content directed at the teen. The documents also note that Benton communicated with his wife in a manner that differed from his interactions with the victim, suggesting a pattern of behavior that may have been inconsistent with his professional responsibilities.
The case highlights the importance of accountability and the need for thorough oversight in organizations that serve minors. As Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us, we are called to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. This incident underscores the necessity of vigilance, transparency, and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
