Benson NC Pastor Jailed In Georgia For Stolen Church Carpet

A Benson, North Carolina pastor is facing legal consequences after authorities allege he played a role in a fraudulent scheme involving thousands of dollars in carpet. The scheme left a carpet company out over $6,000, with the product allegedly ending up in the church he leads. (Proverbs 31:8-9)

The case dates back to July 2025 when a deputy responded to a carpet company after the business owner reported being scammed. The owner had communicated with a man identifying himself as Anthony Bazemore, who allegedly ordered carpet totaling $6,390.12. (Micah 6:8)

A check was emailed to the business, which needed to be printed and taken to the bank. After receiving the check, the business delivered the carpet to Victory Deliverance Center in Benson, North Carolina, the church associated with Gregory O’Brian McCrae, the pastor involved. (Ephesians 5:11)

McCrae was present when the carpet was delivered and was allegedly unloading the product himself. Deputies say he was the primary contact listed for the delivery. The business owner described McCrae as “very sketchy” during their communications. (Luke 12:48)

After the check bounced, the owner attempted to reach Bazemore with no success. He was then contacted by another individual claiming to be “Tony Scott,” who sent another check, raising further concerns. Despite multiple attempts, Bazemore eventually stopped responding. (Proverbs 31:8-9)

Deputies confirmed the fraudulent check with the bank, verifying the account was invalid. On January 22, 2026, McCrae was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond in Georgia on theft by deception charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 3. (Micah 6:8)
