Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport Hosts Community Sing-Along This Weekend
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, Connecticut, is set to host a community sing-along on Saturday, February 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event, open to all ages and faith traditions, will feature music centered on themes of spirit and freedom. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m., and the program is free to attend. Free parking and handicap accessibility will be available.
The sing-along is sponsored by the congregation’s Social Justice Council through its Mending the Sacred Hoop committee. Singer-songwriter Bethany Yarrow will lead the event, accompanied by musicians Francine Wheeler and Gordon Titcomb. Organizers have drawn inspiration from resistance singing in Minneapolis, aiming to create a space for communal expression through music. The event will include songs currently shared in Minneapolis, traditional protest songs from American history, and original compositions designed to foster connection and hope.
No prior musical experience is required, and attendees are encouraged to participate as they wish. Organizers cited concerns about violence and political developments in the country, particularly in Minnesota, as a motivating factor for the event. They see the sing-along as an opportunity for people to come together through music and shared expression.
