8th Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dedicated in Montpelier
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated its 8th temple in Idaho on Sunday in Montpelier. The temple, which became the 225th operating temple globally, was dedicated by President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency. The dedication followed a public open house from September 10 to September 26.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple serves more than 15,000 members in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. During the dedication ceremony, Eyring emphasized the significance of temples in the Church’s teachings. He stated, “Temples are evidence that God is a God of covenants and that his plan reaches beyond mortality into eternity. The temple provides purpose for our lives. It brings peace to our souls. It allows us to reach through the veil of death and across generations to allow the Lord to unite families in the joy of eternal life.”
Eyring also shared a personal anecdote about his late wife, Kathleen, who often drove to the nearby Bountiful Utah Temple to sit outside during her illness. This experience underscored the emotional and spiritual importance of temples for members of the Church.
Church leaders gathered for the dedication, including Sister Susan Bangerter, Elder Steven R. Bangerter, President Henry B. Eyring, Elder Ricardo P. Giménez, and Sister Catherine Giménez. The event included photographs of the leaders and members of the Church, highlighting the community’s involvement and celebration.
The dedication ceremony was followed by interactions between Church leaders and members, reflecting the inclusive and welcoming nature of the event. The Montpelier Idaho Temple stands as a testament to the Church’s commitment to its teachings and the spiritual needs of its members.
