A Surge of Over 100 COVID-19 Cases Linked to Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California, has been linked to a surge of over 100 COVID-19 cases in Shasta County, according to a local news report. The Record Searchlight reported that 123 cases in the past two weeks were connected to the ministry, alongside 80 cases attributed to a rehab center in the same city.
In response to the outbreak, Bethel canceled its outdoor service on October 4 and the upcoming service on October 11. The school has also transitioned to online instruction starting that week. These measures come as public health officials prepare to implement stricter COVID-19 restrictions for businesses in the county.
Shasta County Public Health Director Robin Schurig stated that businesses will have three days to comply with the new restrictions, which will take effect on Friday. The decision follows the rise in cases linked to both Bethel and the rehab center.
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry is part of a Pentecostal church that emphasizes spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, healings, and prophecy. The ministry, which offers classes on life coaching, prophecy, preaching, and career ministry, was originally affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination but now identifies as nondenominational.
Early in the pandemic, Bethel leaders took steps to mitigate risks, including discouraging students from visiting healthcare settings. However, the recent surge in cases has prompted changes in how the ministry operates, reflecting the broader impact of the pandemic on religious institutions.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by congregations and ministries in balancing spiritual practices with public health guidelines. As the community grapples with the outbreak, the focus remains on adhering to health protocols while continuing to serve and minister to those in need.
