Albert G. Wescott, 84, of Dupont, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He was a devoted member of the Holy Mothers of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church in Dupont, a denomination within the Old Catholic churches, which traces its roots to the 16th-century reform movement and emphasizes a return to early Christian practices.

Born in Moosic on September 13, 1938, to Giddon and Dorothea (Haines) Westcott, Wescott was a lifelong resident of the region. He graduated from Moosic High School in 1956 and spent many years working at A & P Warehouse in Scranton. He later retired after a 31-year career as a warehouse supervisor for Central Warehouse in Scranton.

Wescott was actively involved in his community, serving for 42 years with the Moosic Lyons Club and as a member of the Moosic Sportsman’s Club. His commitment to community service reflected the values of the Polish National Catholic Church, which emphasizes charity, hospitality, and service to others.

In addition to his parents, Wescott was preceded in death by several siblings, including brothers Frank, George, Elmer, Gilbert, and Ronald, and sisters Anna, Alberta, Freda, and Evelyn. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ellen Wiancek Wescott; his daughter, Marianne Pherreigo, of Old Forge; his sons, Joseph Capone and his wife, Anissa; Kenneth Capone, and John Capone, all of Dupont; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church, with the Rev. Carmen Bollock officiating. Visitation will take place earlier that day at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc. in Duryea. Interment will be at the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dupont Lions Club’s Christmas Lighting Project, reflecting the church’s emphasis on charity and community support.
