Robert D. Simon Sr., who passed away on March 22, 2012, in Visalia, California, was a devoted family man and community member. Born on September 28, 1930, in Visalia, he was the son of John Jacob and Anna Simon. He is survived by his wife Helen, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, their children Terri and Robert, and several siblings, including Conrad, Eleanor, George, Richard, and Margaret. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Robert worked for the family business, Simon Trucking, for most of his career. He retired at age 62 but returned to work for Dunn’s Trucking until he was 75. Robert cherished family gatherings, especially birthdays, and took pride in being the youngest of 10 children.
A man of strong faith, Robert was a member of Calvary Chapel Visalia, a congregation known for its emphasis on community service and outreach. In lieu of flowers, his family requested donations to Calvary Chapel Visalia or another charity of the donor’s choice. The chapel, which serves as a spiritual and social hub for many in the community, will host a memorial service in his honor on March 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m.
Robert’s life was marked by a commitment to family, service, and community. His legacy includes a deep sense of responsibility and care for others, reflecting the values often emphasized in the Christian tradition. His passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his memory endures through the lives he touched and the community he supported.
