Christians Join Walk of Witness for Palestine in Liverpool

Local Christians, churches, and Christian institutions are coming together for a Walk of Witness in Liverpool on Sunday, 27 September, coinciding with the opening of the Labour Party Conference. The Walk of Witness will commence at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and conclude at Liverpool Cathedral. At the latter, a panel featuring Daoud Nassar from the Tent of Nations, Canon Yazid Said, a Palestinian-born Israeli citizen and Anglican priest, and representatives from the Just Peace Coalition will present. The aim is to foster understanding and solidarity by sharing the experiences of those like Daoud and Canon Yazid, who live in the region.
Dr. Ruth Valerio, a spokesperson for the Just Peace Coalition, emphasized the need for action alongside prayer to achieve a just and lasting peace for all inhabitants of the Holy Land. She highlighted the significance of recent sanctions on Israeli settlements and the ban on importing goods from these settlements as steps toward addressing the displacement of Palestinians. However, she noted that further actions are necessary to support those living under occupation and affected by violence in the Middle East.
The Just Peace Coalition is mobilizing church communities and individuals to raise their voices in solidarity with those affected by the ongoing conflict. The event in Liverpool is designed to ensure that the voices of Palestinian Christians are heard by those in positions of authority. Participants are encouraged to join in a peaceful, prayerful, and hopeful witness, embodying the biblical call to be peacemakers, as reflected in Matthew 5:9, and to act with justice and mercy.
