Churches of Christ Expand Outreach with Vacation Bible School in Albania, Prison Ministry in Zimbabwe and Global Missions
KORÇË — Vickie Dudley, along with her husband, David, from Maryville, Tenn., joined the Korçë Church of Christ and minister Albert Çepi to assist with a Vacation Bible School. Despite the language barrier, Dudley noted that smiles and hugs helped bridge the gap. Their involvement highlights the global outreach efforts of Churches of Christ, emphasizing community and fellowship in ministry.
LA HORMIGA — Jairo Marmol Muñoz and his wife, Andrea, traveled through the dangerous “Trampoline of Death” to reach a newly planted Church of Christ in Colombia’s Putumayo state. The couple arrived safely to find a congregation of over 40 members in a small rented facility. Andrea trained women to teach children’s classes in the church’s kitchen, showcasing the dedication of local leaders in expanding ministry. Bob Young, a missionary, noted that financial support for a larger space could aid the church’s growth.
During their return trip, the couple encountered a wreck on the perilous road, causing a six-hour delay. This experience underscores the challenges faced by missionaries in remote areas, yet their commitment to spreading the Gospel remains steadfast.
ABIDJAN — A 10-day mission trip to Ivory Coast brought Bible studies and baptisms through the efforts of the Church of Christ Plants ministry and the World English Institute. The institute’s “Reception Model” involved hosting a reception for 51 students, encouraging further Bible study. Tom Langley, president of the World English Institute, joined Murray Stewart and other teachers in worshiping with the Il Plateaux Church of Christ. Over 71 hours of Bible studies were conducted, resulting in two baptisms during the trip, with another student baptized shortly after the team returned to the U.S.
INDIA BALANGIR — In Odisha, India, a region marked by militant Hinduism, ministers from Churches of Christ continue to preach and teach, according to Prabhu Kumar, a ministry trainer from Chennai. Kumar recently conducted Bible studies in Balangir, demonstrating the resilience of Christian communities in challenging environments. Their efforts reflect a commitment to sharing the Gospel despite opposition, aligning with the Restoration movement’s emphasis on faithful witness.
These stories illustrate the diverse ways Churches of Christ engage in global ministry, from Vacation Bible Schools to prison outreach and mission trips. Each effort reflects a dedication to spreading the Gospel and supporting local congregations, even in the face of adversity. As Micah 6:8 reminds us, the Lord desires mercy, justice, and humility—values that guide the actions of these ministries around the world.
