Female Christian school teacher accused of grooming teen softball player despite mother’s intervention, cops say

A female teacher at a Christian school in Georgia is accused of grooming a teenage girl she coached on a travel softball team. Authorities allege that the teacher continued private communications with the minor even after the girl’s mother intervened. Katie Elizabeth McDevitt, 28, was arrested on October 15 and charged with felony grooming of a minor. She was released from jail the following day on $7,500 bond.

McDevitt is employed at Loganville Christian Academy, though her name does not appear in the school’s official staff directory. Police claim she coached the 15-year-old girl on the Georgia Strike Softball team while working as a teacher at the academy. The alleged victim is not enrolled at the school.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by WXIA-TV, McDevitt is accused of engaging in inappropriate conduct with the minor between February 1 and September 22, 2026. The affidavit from a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy states that McDevitt created situations where she and the teenager would be alone before and after practice in a hitting facility, an area outside surveillance camera range.

The affidavit also notes that McDevitt sent private messages to the teen girl, which investigators determined were indicative of a romantic relationship. During a forensic interview, the alleged victim described physical interactions with McDevitt that made her uncomfortable.
