Harold Dwight “Duffy” Dufloth, a man known for his humor, wisdom, and unwavering faith, passed away on January 23, 2014, at the age of 99. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.

Born on June 11, 1914, in Onaka, South Dakota, to immigrant parents Henry R. Dufloth and Claudena (Hansen) Dufloth, Duffy’s early life was marked by determination. He graduated from high school in Aberdeen, South Dakota, at the age of 16, despite the lack of a high school in his hometown. He then attended Normal College in Aberdeen, where he balanced academics with extracurricular activities, including writing for the yearbook, playing basketball, and singing in the college choir and a local Wesleyan Methodist traveling quartet.

After completing his studies, Duffy worked as an accountant for a line of grain elevators while also pitching for the Aberdeen baseball team and winning the 1937 state tournament. His academic pursuits continued at Greenville College in Illinois, where he served as chaplain of the college choir and vice-president of his class. There, he met Florence Logan, whom he would later marry in 1939 at the Free Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

Duffy’s career was as diverse as his interests. He worked as a salesman, started a successful auto parts store in South Dakota, and later managed a large district gas company in Lawrenceville. In Indianapolis, he owned and operated a transmission shop and served as treasurer for the Wabash Conference in the Free Methodist Church. He was actively involved in his church, volunteering in various capacities and demonstrating a commitment to community service.

Throughout his life, Duffy remained a devoted family man, finding joy in the accomplishments of his loved ones. After retiring, he and Florence moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they lived for 15 years in a close-knit campground community. They later relocated to Robin Run in Indianapolis, where Duffy continued to engage with friends and enjoy life in his later years.

Duffy’s life reflected a deep commitment to faith, family, and community, embodying the values of service and love that are central to the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. His passing marked the end of a life lived with purpose and joy.
