Gil Jones to Be Nominated for 2028 N.C. Pastorsβ Conference Vice President
Gil Jones, a pastor at Grace Baptist Church in China Grove, is set to be nominated for vice president of the 2028 N.C. Baptist Pastorsβ Conference. The nomination is expected to be made by Luke Lunceford, senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Salisbury, during this yearβs conference, scheduled for Nov. 15-16 at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.
Lunceford shared his intent to nominate Jones in an email to the Biblical Recorder. He first met Jones a few years ago but grew to know him through a volunteer trip to assist a Watauga County pastor in cleaning out his shop and basement after Hurricane Helene. βThrough that experience, and in the time since, I have been deeply impressed by Gilβs genuine heart for pastors and his love for the local church,β Lunceford said in written remarks to the Recorder.
Lunceford emphasized Jonesβ strong connections with pastors and churches across the state and his desire to encourage those faithfully serving their congregations. Both men serve in Rowan County, where Lunceford has witnessed Jonesβ commitment to serving others firsthand. βHis relationships, servantβs heart, and genuine βon mission togetherβ spirit make him someone I am excited to nominate and confident would be a blessing to pastors across our state,β Lunceford said.
Jones has served as one of the pastors at Grace Baptist since 2017, primarily in an associate pastor role. His responsibilities include preaching, teaching, leading meetings, counseling, visitation, leading mission trips, and other administrative tasks. A bivocational pastor for many years, Jones has also provided pulpit supply for churches across North Carolina since 2012. He also served as youth pastor at Central Station Cowboy Church in Midland from 2008-2009.
Jones serves on the board of the Rowan Southern Baptist Association in Salisbury and is a directional team leader and Cabarrus/Rowan cohort leader for Blueprint, a ministry that prepares and equips aspiring pastors. He has engaged in local, national, and international missions for nearly 20 years. He has led short-term mission trips and connected churches without international partnerships to missionaries on the field. He has preached overseas and partnered with the International Mission Board to provide care for missionaries.
