In a heartening display of community support, a Greenville church and a Raleigh-based nonprofit partnered to distribute essential items to those in need. Victory Christian Assembly Church collaborated with Windows of Opportunities, a nonprofit dedicated to serving local residents, to host a giveaway event. This partnership has been ongoing for five years, reflecting a commitment to community service and support.
The event, held on a recent Saturday, provided free food, clothing, and household items to community members. “At this time and age, we need to show love to people, and one way to show love is to give back… give to the poor, you feed them, clothe them — and guess what? That’s what we’re doing here today,” said Barbara Campbell from Victory Christian Assembly Church. This sentiment echoes the biblical call to love one’s neighbor and care for those in need, as highlighted in Micah 6:8.
Organizers noted that the success of the giveaway was made possible through generous donations from Raleigh, Greenville, and surrounding communities. “We get all our donations — when people found out what we are doing — they want to donate so we can bring it,” said Maggie Green, president of Windows of Opportunities. This community-driven effort underscores the importance of collective action in addressing local needs.
Within the first 40 minutes of the event, approximately 50 people were already benefiting from the giveaway, selecting clothing, furniture, and other household goods. “It’s free to all of the community. Take as much as you want, and take it back with you,” Green added, emphasizing the open invitation extended to all community members.
In addition to clothing and household items, volunteers served hot meals and cold drinks at no cost, further supporting those facing economic challenges. “With the cost of living being as high as it is today, everybody’s not as fortunate as we are, so that’s why we like to give back to the community and help others,” said Wanda Gerald, secretary and treasurer of Windows of Opportunities. This initiative reflects the biblical principle of stewardship and the importance of supporting one another, as emphasized in Proverbs 11:1.
