Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Provides Free Monthly Food Distributions for 20th Year

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc has provided free monthly food distributions for the past 20 years, continuing to support families in Genesee County amid rising grocery costs. The church partners with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to offer these distributions, which have become a vital resource for many struggling residents.

Each event typically serves around 200 households, with volunteers distributing multiple pallets of food to local families. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. No proof of income or financial need is required, though recipients are asked to bring a driver’s license or another form of photo identification.

Pastor Nathan Allen emphasized the importance of these distributions, stating, “We know money is tight for many families right now, and our hope is that these distributions help keep food on the table for those who are struggling to make ends meet.” He also highlighted the community aspect of the initiative, noting, “Though these distributions are about more than giving to others; they are about building community and caring for our neighbors.”

Allen encouraged anyone interested in helping to volunteer, saying, “You will leave feeling glad you did.” The church’s efforts reflect a commitment to practical neighbor-love, aligning with the biblical call to care for the vulnerable, as seen in Matthew 25:35, where Jesus says, “I was hungry and you gave me food.”

The church is located at 7234 Fenton Road in Grand Blanc, just north of Grand Blanc Road. Volunteers are always welcome, and donations help sustain the program’s ability to assist families across the Flint area. The initiative continues to serve as a tangible expression of mercy and compassion, meeting real needs in the community.
