Iran’s UN Envoy Warns of Grave Legal Risks from US and Israeli Military Threats
Iran’s UN envoy, Gholamhossein Darzi, issued a warning to the Security Council, stating that threats from the United States and Israel, including potential use of the MOAB bomb and attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, risk serious violations of international law. The letter, addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council president, outlined concerns over the “arrogant threats” made by US President Donald Trump and the “Zionist regime.”
Darzi highlighted that these threats are part of a broader pattern of aggression against Iran, beginning on June 13, 2025, and February 28, 2026. The letter emphasized the deliberate attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, which could lead to catastrophic humanitarian consequences and endanger regional and international peace. It stressed that responsibility for these actions lies with the United States, the Zionist regime, and any entities supporting their aggression and state terrorism.
The letter referenced US media reports from October 15, 2026, stating that the White House and Pentagon had prepared military options, including the possible use of the GBU-43/B MOAB bomb. It noted that Trump discussed the weapon in a television interview on the same day and threatened Iran with further attacks. This aligns with a broader narrative of escalating military posturing and readiness to employ extreme measures.
On October 18, 2026, Israeli War Minister Yisrael Katz announced that Israel was prepared to attack Iran and would target all energy facilities in any new aggression, aiming to return Iran to the “Stone Age.” Katz also claimed that the United States and Israel had dropped 35,000 bombs on Iran in total, asserting that their military campaign was not over. These statements reflect a continued escalation in the conflict and a willingness to engage in large-scale military operations.
The letter also mentioned that the Zionist regime’s prime minister, who is under international prosecution for war crimes, openly declared his intent to preemptively start another war of aggression against Iran. It criticized the silence and explicit support of some Security Council members, which it claimed has emboldened the prime minister to pursue genocidal thinking.
The threats described in the letter are characterized as gross violations of international law, particularly the potential use of the MOAB against civilian infrastructure and the targeting of all Iranian energy facilities. These actions are seen as new instances of violating international humanitarian law, with severe humanitarian and environmental consequences. The letter attributes these violations to the United States and the Zionist regime, emphasizing their repeated disregard for international norms and their prioritization of military aggression over peaceful resolution.
