Local Churches Provide Nightly Services and Supplies for Homeless Community
New Beginnings Church and the Christian Worship Center have partnered to provide weekly services at Lighthouse Park in Biloxi. These gatherings offer hot meals, clothing, and worship opportunities to those in need. Attendees can select supplies such as food or coats and remain for church services.
The initiative has been ongoing for years, with consistent support from the community. Regular attendees have formed a sense of familiarity, described by Pastor Daniel Thurber as family. The church sends a 15-passenger van on Sundays to pick up individuals and transport them to its Ocean Springs location.
Thurber emphasized the church’s commitment to outreach, stating, “We are told in the Bible to go.” This reflects a dedication to serving the community and encouraging engagement beyond the immediate gathering.
The partnership highlights the role of local churches in addressing immediate needs while fostering spiritual connection. By meeting people where they are, the organizations aim to provide both practical support and a sense of belonging.
Such efforts align with the biblical call to care for the vulnerable and to serve with humility. The ministry’s focus on mercy and community reflects a broader commitment to neighbor-love and practical outreach.
The initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion in action. By addressing both physical and spiritual needs, the churches demonstrate a holistic approach to service that mirrors the values of justice, mercy, and humble service.
