Methodist Church Elder’s Wedding Interrupted By “Secret Lover” at Marondera

A Methodist Church lay leader in Zimbabwe was publicly humiliated when his long-term partner, referred to only as Nyari, interrupted his wedding ceremony to expose a secret relationship and false promises regarding lobola payments.

During the traditional questioning by the marriage officer, Nyari stood before the assembled guests and revealed that Gabriel Matsiwe was already in a romantic relationship, contradicting the narrative presented to his bride’s family.

The incident highlighted a breach of trust and communication, as Matsiwe had allegedly misled Nyari and her family about his intentions, causing significant emotional distress and logistical issues.

Nyari claimed that Matsiwe had promised to pay lobola for her by Christmas but failed to mention his existing engagement, leaving her relatives feeling betrayed after making arrangements for the ritual.

Following the confrontation, the marriage officer summoned Nyari, Matsiwe, their parents, and the bride’s parents to a private meeting in the school’s boardroom to resolve the conflict.
