Moravian Church in Manchester Awards Scholarships to Six Primary Students via Fundraising Concert
Students from Broadleaf Primary School in Manchester recently received scholarships to support their education, following a fund-raising concert organized by the Campbell family in collaboration with the Broadleaf Moravian Church. The event, held on July 19, featured the JIS Chorale performing at the Grand Gospel Concert and Fashion Show, which raised funds for the Campbell’s Scholarship and Church Building Fund.
The six students awarded scholarships are Dejhaune Henry, David Josephs, Latavia Campbell, Adanijah Thompson, Moses Sterling, and Oshane Nelson, all from Grades One to Six. The initiative, which has been ongoing for five years, was started by Patricia Campbell, a resident of Broadleaf and former educator in the United States. She explained that the scholarship fund honors her late parents, who were dedicated members of the church and believed in the importance of education for the community.
Patricia Campbell expressed her intention to expand the program to support students through high school. “We expect it to grow and we will be able to support children throughout their high school years, not just at the elementary level,” she said. To date, 30 students have benefited from the fund, and the school has received additional resources based on the funds collected from the annual concerts.
Campbell noted that the school has received financial support in the form of $10,000 in the past two years, which has been used to purchase supplies such as markers and cartridge paper. She praised the community’s continued support, stating that the event has grown each year and that she is motivated to do even more. “My siblings, I know, will echo that,” she added.
The school’s principal, Zephlyn Graham, highlighted the impact of the fund, noting that it supplements government allowances and allows the school to provide extra educational materials. She mentioned that both students and parents look forward to the annual donation, even though they are unaware of its exact amount. The continued success of the initiative reflects the commitment of the community and the church to supporting education and local development.
