Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church to Unveil Historical Marker Celebrating 190 Years of Service
Members of the 190th Anniversary Committee of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Norristown are preparing to unveil a historical marker commemorating 190 years of service to God and the community. The event will take place in the church parking lot on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 1 p.m., with adherence to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and mask requirements.
The church has planned a series of events to celebrate its anniversary, with the unveiling of the historical marker serving as the second event. The first event was the dedication of a memorial headstone for the 190 deceased members of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Norristown, who were re-interred at the Jonathan Roberts Burial Grounds at Red Hill in King of Prussia. This service was held on June 26, 2021.
The anniversary activities will continue with a two-night revival in September 2022. The final event will be a luncheon at Normandy Farm in Blue Bell on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 12 noon, with a ticket cost of $55. All are invited to participate in these events.
Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church is located at 1312 Willow Street, Norristown. The church’s anniversary celebrations reflect a commitment to community and historical preservation, aligning with the values of service and stewardship often emphasized in the African Methodist Episcopal tradition. Such efforts underscore the church’s role in both spiritual and communal life, echoing the call to love one’s neighbor as oneself, as found in Micah 6:8.
