MP Bisht Questions Proposed Ambassador on Israeli Agricultural Technology and Investment Plans
MP Narbahadur Bisht, a member of the Nepali Communist Party, raised questions during a parliamentary hearing committee meeting about the proposed ambassador to Israel, Suresh Kumar Karna, regarding plans to introduce Israeli agricultural technology and investment in Nepal. The discussion centered on how Israel’s agricultural model could be adapted to modernize Nepal’s agricultural sector, particularly in its hilly and mountainous regions.
Bisht highlighted Israel’s success in desert farming and suggested that similar techniques could enhance Nepal’s agricultural productivity. He noted the increasing number of Nepalis working in Israel and emphasized the need to leverage this connection for technological and investment opportunities in Nepal’s agriculture.
The MP expressed concern over the decline of indigenous crops in the Far-Western and Karnali provinces, specifically mentioning Jumla’s Marshi rice. He questioned the proposed ambassador’s concrete plans to promote these crops globally and integrate modern Israeli agricultural technology to conserve and expand their market access.
Bisht also sought clarification on how Israeli agricultural technology would be applied to boost Nepal’s production and productivity. He emphasized the importance of the ambassador’s role in advancing national interests, particularly in supporting specific regions and promoting commercial farming and exports of indigenous products.
The MP’s inquiry reflects a broader interest in utilizing international partnerships for domestic development, aligning with the biblical principle of seeking wisdom and justice in governance, as seen in Micah 6:8. This approach underscores the need for responsible stewardship and equitable growth.
