Mrs. Yolanda Stennett Crowned Mrs. International 2021

Yolanda Stennett, 45, of White Plains, Maryland, was crowned Mrs. International 2021 on July 24, 2021, at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. The pageant, which has been held for over 36 years, featured contestants from around the world competing in categories such as interview, fitness wear, and evening gown. Stennett’s crowning was highlighted by the presence of her father, John Makle, Jr., on stage, as the audience celebrated the continuation of a tradition that prioritizes the safety of participants and staff.
The Mrs. International Pageant emphasizes community service, with half of each contestant’s score based on their knowledge and work with their platform. Stennett’s personal journey reflects the importance of mentorship in transforming lives. Growing up as an at-risk youth, she was on a path that could have led her away from positive outcomes. She credits her recovery to a church mentoring program that provided her with the tools to succeed academically and emotionally.
“Studies show that the presence of a mentor in an at-risk youth’s life reduces crime involvement, drug addiction, and depressive symptoms, and significantly increases the enrollment in higher education and career leadership positions,” Stennett said. “I’ve been a mentor and youth advocate my entire adult life, and my new role as Mrs. International 2021 will allow me to spread my mentoring philosophy nationally and internationally: reach one; teach one—by any means necessary.”
Stennett is actively involved with several organizations that support mentoring programs, including Daughters with a Purpose and the Center for Abused Persons of Charles County. She also serves as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), advocating for children in need. Throughout her reign, she plans to conduct seminars, fundraising events, and other initiatives to support mentoring programs globally.
Stennett’s achievement will be celebrated at a Welcome Home Reception at Felt Lounge in MGM National Harbor, Maryland, on August 22, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with tickets available at the provided link.
