New Samaritan House Director Focuses on Shelter Expansion and Partnership Strengthening
Cassidy Kipp, the new executive director of Samaritan House in Kalispell, continues her mission of connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with permanent housing. With over a decade of experience in the Flathead Valley, Kipp has long focused on building relationships with those navigating instability. Her new role at Samaritan House marks a continuation of her advocacy for vulnerable populations, as she works to strengthen partnerships and expand services.
Kipp took over from Chris Krager, who led the nonprofit for 25 years before being removed by the board. She now oversees the $16.9 million “Building Stability” expansion, which began in 2024 after three years of planning. The project initially included three phases, such as veteran housing, a community center, and an emergency shelter. However, Kipp noted that expansion plans are still evolving due to the dynamic funding landscape.
The first phase of construction is progressing as planned, with crews building 18 two- and three-bedroom permanent apartments at fixed affordable rates. With the foundation and structure’s footers in place, Kipp said the project is now moving “vertical.” This phase aims to provide stable housing options for those in need.
In addition to construction, Kipp is expanding Samaritan House’s programming, including case management and veteran-specific services. She emphasized the importance of supporting marginalized populations and creating a space where individuals can build connections and prepare for life beyond the shelter.
Kipp credited the shelter’s case management team with helping approximately 85% of clients transition to permanent housing. The average length of stay is around 32 days, during which the team addresses physical, employment, and other needs. Kipp highlighted the importance of these connections, ensuring individuals know where to turn for support after leaving the shelter.
As the shelter continues its mission, Kipp remains focused on fostering stability and community. Her work reflects a commitment to care for vulnerable neighbors, aligning with the biblical call to protect the vulnerable and show mercy.
