NJ Megachurch Packs 1.2 Million Meals for Christmas Outreach
Volunteers across seven campuses of Liquid Church in New Jersey packed over 1.2 million meals for the needy during its Christmas Outreach event in December 2024. The effort, coordinated with the charity group Rise Against Hunger, aimed to send the meals overseas to feed those in need. The meals are set to be delivered to Zambia, where the church is already engaged in a clean water initiative.
The non-denominational megachurch reported that more than 6,000 volunteers participated in the event, with each of its campuses serving as a meal-packing location. Communications Manager Brooke Stempert highlighted the strong community response, noting that volunteers were “excited” to contribute to the cause. The church’s efforts reflect its commitment to serving others, a core value emphasized on its website.
Liquid Church, founded in 2007 by Pastor Tim Lucas, traces its origins to a small group of young Christians meeting in a church basement. The congregation emphasizes grace, authenticity, and sacrificial service as central to its mission. It also values communicating the Bible’s timeless truths in ways that are culturally relevant.
The 1.2 million meals packed this year mark a record for the church’s annual Christmas charity event, surpassing last year’s total of approximately 1 million meals. Stempert expressed hope that the volunteers felt a sense of pride and excitement in contributing to the season of giving. She noted that collective action enables significant impact, aligning with the church’s belief in the power of community.
The church’s outreach efforts are part of a broader commitment to global mission work and humanitarian aid. Its partnership with Rise Against Hunger underscores a dedication to addressing hunger and poverty, particularly in regions where the church has existing projects, such as Zambia. The initiative reflects a focus on practical service and compassion.
Liquid Church’s approach to ministry combines local community engagement with international outreach, emphasizing the importance of serving others as a way to embody the spirit of Christmas. The event’s success highlights the role of congregational involvement in advancing the church’s mission of generosity and care for the vulnerable.
