Pecatonica Church Opens Everyday Essentials Pantry to Support Community Needs Beyond Food Assistance

In Pecatonica, Illinois, Pecatonica United Methodist Church has launched an initiative to address a critical gap in community support services. The church is opening its Everyday Essentials Pantry to assist families struggling to afford everyday household necessities. The pantry, located at 528 Washington St., will open its doors from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month, starting September 12. The initiative was born from Pastor Marilyn Nolan’s observation that while food pantries are common, there is a significant need for non-food essentials. Recognizing this, the church aims to support those who may not have access to these items through government benefits.

The church’s pantry is inclusive, available to anyone in need, regardless of their receipt of government assistance. The first distribution event highlighted the broader reach of this need, with visitors coming from outside Pecatonica, indicating that the demand for such services extends beyond the local community.
