President Oaks Participates in Days of ‘47 Parade in Salt Lake City, Utah
President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints surprised attendees by joining the Days of ‘47 Parade in downtown Salt Lake City on Friday, July 24, 2026. The annual event commemorates the arrival of the first company of Latter-day Saint pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. The parade also honors the heritage of Utah’s pioneers from various faith traditions.
President Oaks and his wife, Sister Kristen Oaks, participated in the parade in a vehicle that followed that of President Camille N. Johnson, General Relief Society President, who served as this year’s grand marshal. Participants and spectators along the parade route quickly recognized the presidential couple, creating a joyful atmosphere as they moved through the city.
Before the parade, President and Sister Oaks greeted Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd and his wife Erin on Temple Square. The event included familiar themes and featured messages related to the upcoming Salt Lake Temple Celebration, which is scheduled to take place from April to October of 2027.
The Days of ‘47 Parade remains a cherished tradition, reflecting the enduring legacy of the pioneers who shaped the region. It serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of those who sought a new beginning in the Salt Lake Valley.
The parade also highlights the diverse faith backgrounds of Utah’s pioneers, underscoring a shared commitment to community and heritage. This year’s event continued to celebrate the historical significance of the pioneers while looking forward to future milestones, such as the Salt Lake Temple Celebration.
