Russian Missile Strike Destroys Chaplain Mark Sergeev’s Home in Melitopol

The missile strike destroyed the home of Mark Sergeev, chaplain at the Melitopol Christian Church, during a Russian night attack. According to reports, the family was inside the residence when the missile hit. Sergeev managed to evacuate his children from the basement before the building collapsed. A fire quickly spread, leading to an explosion. Despite the destruction, all family members were reported safe.

Sergeev, a pastor of the fifth generation and father of three, has been actively involved in community service. He leads a Christian group known as 4UBAND and serves as a youth minister at the Melitopol Christian Church, one of the largest evangelical communities in southern Ukraine. During the early stages of the full-scale war, he and his family remained in the occupied city of Melitopol.

The family’s current residence was a second home, as they had previously occupied their own house in Melitopol. The missile strike occurred while they were staying in this location. Sergeev expressed gratitude for the safety of his family, describing the event as “the grace of God.”

Throughout the conflict, Sergeev has been engaged in humanitarian efforts. He stored food in the church and provided meals to those in need. Daily prayers were offered, even for those who had not previously visited the church. His work has included witnessing the persecution of Christians by Russian authorities, including at the German Human Rights Commission in Congress.

The attack in Kiev resulted in casualties, with 13 people injured and four killed. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities in conflict zones, particularly those serving vulnerable populations. The destruction of Sergeev’s home highlights the risks endured by individuals committed to faith and service amid war.
