Mariposa County’s Only Homeless Shelter Closes, Affecting Emergency Services

Mariposa County, CA — The only emergency homeless shelter in Mariposa County has recently closed, bringing an end to nearly seven years of service at the Connections facility on St. Andrews Road, near John C. Fremont Hospital. The shelter, managed by the Alliance for Community Transformations, ceased operations on July 28 due to financial sustainability concerns. Since its establishment in 2019, the shelter had provided refuge to as many as 36 individuals at a time.

In response to this closure, county officials are actively seeking a new location to continue offering emergency shelter services. The county also retains ownership of over a dozen pallet shelters on the property, which may play a role in future plans. However, the process of identifying a suitable site and arranging for a new shelter program is expected to take some time.

In the interim, the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, along with the Sheriff’s Office and the Health & Human Services Agency, are diligently working to support those affected by the shelter’s closure. Efforts are being made to provide transitional and bridge housing, as well as access to treatment and rehabilitation programs.
