The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has emphasized the concept of “hastening His work” as a central theme in recent years, reflecting a period of significant growth and activity. This phrase, rooted in Doctrine and Covenants 88:73, has been frequently referenced by Church leaders to describe the accelerated pace of the Church’s global expansion and spiritual initiatives.

Prophet and President Russell M. Nelson highlighted this idea during a 2024 general conference, announcing the construction of 17 new temples. He urged members to recognize the “majesty of this moment,” underscoring the Lord’s active involvement in the Church’s progress. This sentiment was echoed by Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in a subsequent conference, who described the term “hastening” as indicative of urgency and acceleration in the Church’s mission and growth.

Elder Rasband pointed to several indicators of this hastening, including a surge in missionary numbers, increased membership, the rapid construction of temples, and the expansion of Church education programs. These developments, he noted, are not merely statistical but reflect a deepening spiritual commitment among members. The Church’s leaders have expressed gratitude for being part of this era, emphasizing the importance of witnessing and participating in the fulfillment of prophecy.

The Church’s missionary program has seen substantial growth over the years. In 2012, there were 58,000 full-time missionaries serving in 347 missions worldwide. The eligibility ages for missionary service have also evolved, with male missionaries now able to serve at age 18 and female missionaries at age 19. This shift reflects a broader effort to make missionary service more accessible and to meet the needs of a changing global population.

The Church’s emphasis on hastening its work aligns with its mission to spread the gospel and provide spiritual and temporal blessings to all people. Leaders have consistently framed this growth as a divine initiative, encouraging members to remain faithful and active participants in the Church’s expanding efforts. The focus remains on the spiritual and communal impact of these developments, as well as the importance of individual and collective commitment to the Church’s teachings and objectives.
