Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin Expands Outreach, Aiding Hundreds Monthly Through Clothing and Food Programs

Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas, is expanding its outreach efforts, providing essential support to hundreds of community members each month. Since opening their clothes closet a few months ago, the church has been instrumental in assisting those in need. In December alone, they aided 522 individuals, and despite opening just one day in January, they helped 215 people. As of February, they have already assisted 126 people, including six families affected by house fires last year.

The church offers a wide array of items at no cost, including clothing, shoes, household goods like dishes and bedding, books, and children’s necessities. Remarkably, they have even distributed CPAP machines to those in need. Kerri Byerly, one of the closet’s organizers, emphasized their commitment to meeting community needs, stating, “If we see a need why we aren’t answering it and so that’s why we opened the clothes closet up and started helping the community.”

In addition to clothing, Trinity Baptist Church operates a food pantry, distributing food boxes each month to approximately 60 people. Katie Hickman Quine, the pantry’s organizer, highlighted the importance of their mission, saying, “It’s not much but it’s helping. I think it’s a need and nobody should be hungry.” The pantry relies on donations from church members, and while the response has been positive, they are actively seeking additional resources to expand their reach.

To sustain their growing outreach programs, the church is calling for donations of various items, including clothing, household goods, and children’s items. Hickman Quine noted the joy and fulfillment derived from their work, remarking, “The blessing you get from seeing these people come in and being thankful. It just makes you feel good that you’re doing God’s work.”

For those interested in contributing or volunteering, Trinity Baptist Church can be contacted through their Facebook page, ‘The Clothes Closet at Trinity Baptist Church,’ or by calling 936-632-8450. This initiative reflects the biblical call to love and serve one’s neighbor, as exemplified in Matthew 25:35, where caring for the least of these is seen as serving Christ himself.
