UK, Australia, Canada Condemn Israel’s Decision Not to Investigate WCK Convoy Strike in Gaza
The UK, Australia, and Canada have expressed strong disapproval of Israel’s decision not to investigate the 2024 strike on a World Central Kitchen (WCK) convoy in Gaza, which killed seven aid workers. In a joint statement, the foreign ministries of these three countries criticized Israel’s announcement on August 19, 2026, that it would not pursue criminal investigations into the incident. They emphasized that the decision was “shameful” and called on Israel to uphold its international humanitarian law obligations.
The three nations had been urging Israel to conduct a thorough and swift examination of the case for over two years. They stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers operating in conflict zones. The statement followed an Israeli military announcement that it would investigate two suspected war crimes cases in Gaza while closing three others, including the WCK strike.
Poland has also taken action, summoning the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw over the closure of the investigation into the deaths of Polish aid worker Damian Sobol and his WCK colleagues. The Polish foreign ministry described Israel’s decision as a “great disappointment,” noting that Warsaw had conveyed its critical assessment of Israel’s efforts to establish the circumstances of the attack. A parallel investigation is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Przemysl.
The Polish ministry reiterated its demand for full clarity regarding the circumstances of the WCK workers’ deaths in April 2024 and emphasized its refusal to accept those responsible evading legal and moral accountability. The incident occurred when Israeli military forces struck the convoy after it had unloaded 100 tonnes of food in besieged Gaza, brought by sea.
According to WCK, the convoy was tracked for nearly two kilometers before being attacked, with each vehicle struck in succession. The organization stated that the vehicles were marked with its identifying insignia. The attack has raised significant concerns about the safety of humanitarian aid operations in conflict zones, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in such situations.
The international community’s response underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of upholding justice and humanitarian principles. As Micah 6:8 reminds us, we are called to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. The events surrounding the WCK strike serve as a reminder of the moral and ethical responsibilities that accompany all actions, especially in times of conflict.
