Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Statesboro Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Community Service and Reflection
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Statesboro marked a significant milestone on April 27, 2025, as the congregation gathered to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The event was filled with smiles, laughter, and love, as members reflected on the years that had shaped the church’s journey.
The fellowship was founded in 1985 by the late Rev. Frank Anderson of the Savannah Unitarian Universalist Church. He compiled a list of locals in the Statesboro area who frequently visited his church, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving community. These early members grew steadily through word of mouth, the church’s programs, and monthly potluck suppers open to all who wished to attend.
The congregation’s growth eventually led to a re-affiliation with the Unitarian Universalist Association in 1990. This decision solidified the church’s identity and set the stage for its continued development. The anniversary service served as a testament to the enduring impact of this foundational step.
The celebration began with a message from Shari Barr, a long-time church member and City Council Member. She spoke about the church’s journey and its profound influence on her family over the years. Her words highlighted the deep connections formed within the congregation.
Rev. Dr. Jane Page followed with a service that brought the community together through shared hymns and reflection. For Page, the anniversary was a meaningful moment, as she has served the church for nearly two decades, witnessing its transformation into a vital part of Statesboro’s spiritual landscape.
Page emphasized the church’s inclusive nature, stating, “Everyone is welcome here, no matter whom you love, the color of your skin, your nationality, ethnicity, gender identity, or your religious or philosophical beliefs. All who treat others with respect are invited to our religious home.” This statement reflects the congregation’s commitment to shared values over creed or dogma.
The service provided an opportunity for members to express their appreciation for the church and its ministry. As the celebration concluded, the congregation was invited to reflect on their shared journey and the future they continue to build together.
