Vatican Receives Secret Report Alleging Hypocrisy of 40 Gay Italian Priests
A man identified as Francesco Mangiacapra, an escort, reportedly sent a file to the Vatican containing information about 40 gay priests in Italy. The document, described as 1,200 pages long, included alleged evidence of their sexual orientation. Mangiacapra stated his motivation was to “pun them for their hypocrisy,” according to reports from Italian media.
The file reportedly included a copy of a mobile application, ThesApp, and other materials. Mangiacapra told Italian media that he had decided to expose the priests because he could no longer tolerate their behavior. The Archdiocese of Naples confirmed that the file was sent to the Vatican, though the archbishop, Cresencio Sepe, noted that no one in the church had worked in the city.
Sepe emphasized that the case was serious and that those who erred must face consequences and be helped to repent for the damage they caused. The archbishop did not confirm whether any of the priests or seminarians were accused of specific crimes, stating that the matter involved “sins, not crimes.”
Mangiacapra clarified in a diocese statement that none of the 34 priests or six seminarians were accused of having sexual relations with teenagers. He reiterated that the issue was about moral failings rather than criminal behavior.
Earlier reports indicated that a gay priest had purchased an apartment for his husband, and after the relationship ended, he became homeless. Other accounts mentioned that some men, at the suggestion of a friend named Philip, moved to Romania, sold their home in Kent County, and bought an apartment in Bucharest, which was named after their husband, Florin.
