Less than a year prior to the accident, Leiniz’s wife had succumbed to cancer, leaving him as the sole caretaker of their children. This period of immense personal hardship, according to Genova, had already depleted Leiniz’s savings. During the court proceedings, Leiniz confirmed that he had resigned from his job around January of the same year to dedicate more time to his family.
Judge Donald Hafele set Leiniz’s bond at $150,000, while the prosecution had requested a higher bond of $200,000.
