Jonesboro Church Health Center Hosts Peach Drive to Support Clinic Operations and Patient Care

Every summer, the Jonesboro Church Health Center in Jonesboro, Ark., hosts a peach drive to support its vital healthcare services for those unable to afford medical care. Since its inception in 1992, the clinic has been a cornerstone for the community, providing essential healthcare services to those in need.

The peach drive is a unique fundraising initiative where donors can contribute $125 to have a box of Georgia peaches delivered to their doorstep the very next day after picking. This initiative relies on the dedication of volunteers who ensure the peaches are picked, shipped overnight in refrigerated trucks, and delivered promptly.

The clinic’s operations are primarily funded by the peach drive and a nominal fee charged to patients, which has gradually increased from $0 to $20 per visit. However, the clinic remains committed to its mission of inclusivity, ensuring that no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.

The clinic’s success is attributed to the tireless efforts of volunteers, including Dr. John St. Clair, one of the original volunteers. Dr. St. Clair noted that despite a decrease in patient numbers following the Affordable Care Act, the clinic continued to serve those without insurance, highlighting the persistent need for its services.

Charlott Jones, daughter of one of the clinic’s founders, expressed deep gratitude to all volunteers, board members, and supporting organizations like St. Bernards and NEA Baptist for their contributions. The clinic continues to seek volunteers and donations to sustain its mission of serving the community.
