Quaker meetings across the United Kingdom are being encouraged to reflect on a call for “costly solidarity” with Palestinian Christians, as outlined in the Kairos Palestine II statement. This document, released by Palestinian Christians in November 2025, presents a stark assessment of the ongoing situation, describing it as involving genocide, colonization, and ethnic cleansing. The Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee (QPSWCC) has reviewed the statement and is now seeking input from area meeting clerks on how Quakers should respond.

The Kairos Palestine II statement urges churches and faith communities globally to stand in solidarity with Palestinians. It is part of a broader movement among Christian organizations in Britain, including Quakers, who have been engaged in efforts to address the occupation and its impact. The QPSWCC acknowledges that the subject is complex and may present challenges, particularly within Quaker communities, but emphasizes the importance of engaging with these difficult conversations.

The letter from the QPSWCC references the existing work of Britain Yearly Meeting on Palestine, which includes various initiatives aimed at promoting justice and peace. It underscores that working toward a just peace requires confronting uncomfortable truths and engaging in honest discernment. Area meetings are being asked to use Quaker discernment processes to consider the Kairos statement and to share their reflections through the QPSWCC secretary, Oliver Robertson.

In addition to the Kairos document, the letter includes resources for further study, such as a guide from Pax Christi International and eyewitness accounts from ecumenical accompaniers. These materials are intended to support Quakers in their discernment process. The QPSWCC also highlights the Time to Act campaign, launched in June 2026 by Christian organizations and churches, which seeks to mobilize collective action in support of Palestinian communities.

The call for solidarity with Palestine aligns with the Quaker commitment to peace and justice, as seen in the biblical principle of loving one’s neighbor (Matthew 5:9). Engaging with the realities faced by Palestinians is not only a moral imperative but also a reflection of the Christian call to witness to truth and compassion. As Quakers continue to discern their response, they are reminded that the path to peace often requires courage, humility, and a willingness to listen deeply.
