Suzy Rawlinson, Volunteer Coordinator at Norman Regional Hospital and Member of Assistance League of Norman, Passes Away in Norman, Oklahoma
Suzy Rawlinson, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on December 22, 2019, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born on June 15, 1945, in Duncan, Oklahoma, she was the only child of Morris and Bonnye Dulaney. Suzy’s life was marked by a generous and loving spirit, which she poured into her family and community.
After graduating from Duncan High School in 1963, Suzy attended The University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She cherished her friendships and remained connected to her sisters throughout her life. Following a year off to care for her mother during her father’s final days, Suzy graduated in 1968. She met her future husband, Gary Rawlinson, on a blind date as a senior at Oklahoma. They married in August 1968 and built their home in Norman, where they raised their three children—Matt, Lindy, and Peter.
Suzy was deeply involved in her children’s lives, supporting them through their various endeavors. She was also active in the Norman community, serving as a volunteer coordinator at Norman Regional Hospital, a Sunday school teacher at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, and a founding member and later President of the Assistance League of Norman. Her commitment to service extended to her work with PEO and the Kappa Kappa Gamma House Board.
As her children grew, Suzy worked at Harold’s on Campus Corner and later at The Columns. She found joy in creative pursuits such as painting and needlepoint, and she enjoyed her weekly mahjong games. Suzy also loved traveling with family and friends, and she cherished the summers spent in her Colorado mountain home. With Gary, she developed a passion for fly fishing, spending many happy years on the waters of Goose Creek and the Blanco River.
Suzy’s love for her family was evident in the time she spent with her children and later her grandchildren—Cortland, Jax, and Dyer. Her husband, Gary, and her children—Matt, Lindy, and Peter—will all miss her deeply. Services for Suzy will be held on Friday, December 27th, at 11:00 AM at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
