South Carolina Pastor Indicted for Cyberstalking Estranged Wife and Posting Nude Photo Leading to Her Suicide

Federal authorities indicted John Paul Miller, a pastor from South Carolina, this week on charges of cyberstalking his estranged wife, Mica Miller, whose death by suicide followed months of alleged unwanted communications and harassment.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, the pastor targeted his wife starting in November 2022, continuing his behavior until her death on April 27, 2024.

Mica Miller was found deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and prosecutors detailed alleged acts including posting her nude photo online without consent and sending over 50 harassing messages in a single day.

FBI officials described the pastor’s actions as “predatory, measured” causing “profound trauma” to the victim and her loved ones, highlighting the severe impact of his conduct.

In a related incident, Regina Ward, representing Mica Miller’s family, stated that Mica had previously complained about John Paul Miller appearing unannounced at locations she frequented.

Prosecutors uncovered evidence that John Paul Miller bought a tire deflation device online and discussed it regarding Mica Miller’s vehicle, despite his denials of damaging the tires.

John Paul Miller faces past allegations, including a 1998 rape charge from when he was a youth church leader in Indiana, though he denied them in a counterclaim.

The indictment claims his alleged harassment significantly impacted Mica Miller’s finances and daily life, carrying a maximum sentence of five years for cyberstalking and two years for false statements.
