Believers Church Purchases 3,645 Gallons of Gas at $2.99 per Gallon for Community Members
Believers Church of Statesboro demonstrated their commitment to community service through a random act of kindness on April 9, when they purchased down gas at Po Jo’s, located at 21201 US-80 East, until 1 PM. The church offered regular gasoline at $2.99 per gallon, with no strings attached. Over three hours, they purchased down 3,645 gallons of gas, providing significant relief to local residents.
The event was part of the church’s ongoing “Serve the Boro” initiative, which includes weekly acts of kindness leading up to Easter Sunday. These efforts aim to share God’s love through practical, tangible actions that benefit the community.
Pastor Mike Oglesby, the outreach pastor at Believers Church, emphasized the church’s desire to be a blessing rather than a burden. “This is a practical way of showing God’s love,” he said. “We are out here blessing God’s community by buying gas down. Going into the community to share God’s love and random acts of kindness with no strings attached is what we love to do.”
Oglesby also addressed common perceptions of churches, noting that many view them as organizations that always seek assistance. He clarified that Believers Church aims to counter this by being a source of blessing. “No sermons at the gas pumps,” he said, “however, we are here for you if you want us to pray blessings on you and of course we would love for you to visit Believers if you do not have a home church.”
The collaboration between Believers Church and Po Jo’s exemplifies the power of community partnerships in addressing local needs. By offering discounted gas, the church provided immediate relief to residents while reinforcing the importance of neighborly support.
Such acts of kindness align with the biblical call to serve others with humility and compassion. Micah 6:8 reminds us that God desires justice, mercy, and humility in our actions, reflecting the church’s mission to serve with integrity and love.
