Blythe-Area Pastor Charged with Multiple Felonies of Sexual Assault on a Minor

A 41-year-old pastor, Lino Hernandez, from the Coachella and Palo Verde valleys, has been charged with multiple felonies, including sexual assault of a minor. The charges, which include four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, two counts of lewd acts on a minor, and one count of forcible penetration, were filed following an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. This investigation began in June, after a report of an alleged assault was received.

Hernandez made his initial court appearance at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, where the case was reassigned to the Blythe Courthouse. His formal arraignment is scheduled for August 18. During this appearance, a criminal protective order was issued, prohibiting Hernandez from contacting the victim, whose identity remains confidential.

According to Sgt. Bryan Berryman of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, detectives began their investigation in June upon receiving the initial report. Their efforts led to Hernandez, who is known to have served as a pastor in the Blythe and Indio areas. The investigation confirmed his involvement, leading to his arrest on Wednesday morning. A search warrant was executed at his property on Cottonwood Avenue in Blythe, where he was apprehended without incident.
