Community Impact Alliance Convenes Faith Leaders and Nonprofits in Yonkers to Foster Collaboration and Address Community Needs
Legislator Jewel Williams Johnson convened a Community Impact Alliance gathering at Calvary Baptist Church, bringing together faith leaders and nonprofit representatives to foster collaboration and address shared community concerns. The event, organized in conjunction with the Ministers Fellowship Council of White Plains and Vicinity, emphasized the importance of face-to-face connections and resource sharing between two groups that often respond to similar needs.
Faith leaders and nonprofit representatives gathered to discuss pressing issues facing Westchester communities. Among the concerns raised were the need for more affordable housing, an economy that supports young people staying in the region after college, protections and assistance for immigrant families, and greater outreach and communication efforts. Many faith leaders also expressed a lack of familiarity with the services provided by nonprofit organizations present at the event.
Legislator Williams Johnson highlighted the significance of the gathering, noting that faith institutions are often the first point of contact for individuals in need. She emphasized the potential for collaboration to bridge the gap between those seeking help and the organizations equipped to provide it.
The discussion also touched on the challenges faced by churches, particularly Black churches, in accessing grants and navigating the funding application process. Participants called for increased support and guidance to help faith-based organizations effectively leverage available resources.
The event underscored the value of uniting diverse community stakeholders to address local challenges through collective action and shared resources. By fostering stronger connections between faith leaders and nonprofit organizations, the Community Impact Alliance aims to enhance the effectiveness of community service efforts.
