In a recent development, an Edinburg pastor is facing serious charges related to allegations of indecency with a child. Jorge Ivan Gonzalez Martinez, an employee at Poder Y Gloria Church, is charged with three counts of indecency with a child and one count of indecency with a child exposes. The investigation was initiated following a report made by the victim’s father on July 19, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit.
According to the affidavit, the alleged incidents took place at the church located at 4801 S. Business Highway 281, between March and April 2025. The victim, during an interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center on July 24, recounted that the inappropriate behavior began with hugs that progressively became more invasive, involving unwanted body contact. She described how these hugs escalated to include kisses on the forehead, cheeks, and lips, all occurring in the church’s camera room.
The affidavit further details specific instances of alleged misconduct. In one account, Gonzalez is said to have inappropriately touched the victim’s chest after lifting her shirt and bra. In another instance, the victim was allegedly made to lie on the floor, close her eyes, and had her leggings and underwear pulled down, resulting in her being exposed. Additionally, there was an incident where Gonzalez reportedly placed the victim’s hand on his crotch over his clothing after she did not respond to his question about whether she would like to touch him.
Gonzalez was arrested on July 28 and was released on $70,000 bail from the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center. As this case unfolds, it serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of accountability and justice, echoing the biblical call to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). The community is reminded of the need for vigilance and care for the vulnerable, ensuring that justice is served while supporting those affected by such allegations.
