Former Houma Christian Coach Terminated for Reasons Unrelated to Sexual Assault Charges (Houma, Louisiana)
Former Houma Christian coach Zachariah Trujillo, 25, was recently arrested on five counts of Second Degree Rape involving a student he had coached. The charges stem from alleged inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile, which authorities identified as a former coach.
Trujillo had his employment terminated this past spring for reasons “unrelated to the investigation,” the school stated in an official statement. At the time of his termination, the school had no knowledge or suspicion of the alleged conduct that has now led to criminal charges.
On August 27, 2026, Deputies with the TPSO Patrol Division responded to a residence on the east side of Houma, where they learned of the alleged inappropriate sexual contact. During the preliminary investigation, Deputies determined the adult male involved was a former coach of the juvenile victim. Authorities identified the suspect as Zachariah Jerry Trujillo.
Detectives with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit took over the investigation. Trujillo was brought in for questioning, during which he acknowledged his involvement in a sexual relationship with the juvenile, who was his former student.
Trujillo was arrested and booked on five counts of Second Degree Rape. He remains in custody in Terrebonne Parish, on a $1,000,000 bond. The school emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students, stating it takes any allegation involving minors seriously and will cooperate fully with authorities.
In an official statement, Houma Christian Head of School Bubba Orgeron expressed concern for those affected by the situation. The school reiterated its dedication to the safety of its students and asked the community to pray for those involved. It also noted that it would respect the investigative process and the privacy of those affected.
The school’s statement reflects a commitment to accountability and care for its community. It underscores the importance of protecting the vulnerable and upholding the safety of minors. Micah 6:8 reminds us that justice, mercy, and humble service are essential in serving others.
