More Israelis Requesting New Testaments from Jews for Jesus Following Oct. 7 Conflict
Jews for Jesus, a Messianic Jewish organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel with Jewish people, has reported a notable increase in requests for copies of the New Testament from Israelis since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas in October. The organization, which is part of the broader Messianic Jewish movement, provides the New Testament free of charge to Israelis through its website and partnerships with other ministries such as One for Israel and Tree of Life Ministries.
Based on data shared with The Christian Post, Jews for Jesus has recorded 1,230 New Testament orders from Israelis since the conflict began. The organization’s international headquarters is located in San Francisco, with branches in cities around the world, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Jews for Jesus engages in public conversations about Jesus, hosts events for dialogue, and conducts charitable work such as operating soup kitchens and supporting Holocaust survivors.
The organization’s executive director, Aaron Abramson, noted that the surge in demand may be linked to the profound impact of Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7. The attack, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the abduction of over 240 others, has left many Israelis grappling with questions of security, identity, and faith. Abramson observed that the event has challenged the perception of Israel’s ability to defend itself, prompting individuals to seek alternative sources of hope and trust.
Abramson explained that the war has led to a sense of hopelessness among some Israelis, particularly those who have experienced antisemitism abroad. These individuals are now questioning their future and where they can place their trust. “If you can’t put your trust in a political solution, or a military solution, or an economic solution, then where do you put your trust?” Abramson reflected, highlighting the spiritual search that has emerged in the wake of the conflict.
The situation in Gaza has also drawn international attention, with the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reporting over 37,000 deaths since the war began. However, the ministry has not provided a distinction between combatants and civilians. This context underscores the complex and deeply human impact of the conflict, which has affected not only Israelis but also the broader region.
In the face of such turmoil, Jews for Jesus continues to offer spiritual resources and support, reflecting a commitment to addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the war. The organization’s efforts align with the biblical call to seek peace and show mercy, as seen in Micah 6:8, which emphasizes doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God.
