Pastors Who Founded Community Church and Foodbank Announce Departure After 14 Years
The founders of a long-running community church and foodbank in Sudbury have expressed gratitude for their 14 years of service, as they prepare to step down from their roles. Pastors Andrew and Emma Stewart-Darling will leave Stour Valley Vineyard Church next month to work with humanitarian charity Open Doors UK. Their departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the local community, which they helped shape through faith and service.
Their successors, Joel and Kady Taylor, will take over the leadership of the church after being commissioned this weekend. The Taylors, who are relocating from San Jose in northern California, will bring new perspectives and energy to the congregation. The transition reflects the ongoing evolution of the church and its commitment to serving the community.
Andrew and Emma Stewart-Darling established Stour Valley Vineyard Church in their living room in September 2007, shortly after moving from Twickenham in London. Alongside the church, they founded the Storehouse foodbank, which has provided essential support to local residents. Their vision extended beyond spiritual guidance, emphasizing practical care and community engagement.
In 2017, the couple expanded their efforts by establishing the Vineyard Centre on Tudor Road. This space became a hub for Sunday services and community groups, further strengthening the church’s role in the town. The centre exemplifies the couple’s dedication to fostering connection and providing a welcoming environment for all.
Andrew Stewart-Darling reflected on the significance of their work, stating, “It has been one of the greatest privileges of our lives to plant this church here for our community.” He emphasized the couple’s intention to create a space where individuals could explore faith without judgment, highlighting their commitment to inclusivity and acceptance.
The Stewart-Darling’s journey from a small living room to a well-established church and community center underscores their impact on Sudbury. Their legacy includes not only spiritual leadership but also tangible support through the foodbank and community initiatives. As they prepare to move on, their work continues to inspire those who have been part of their ministry.
