Park, the chairman of the World Peace Road Foundation, was summoned by police on December 31 for questioning as a reference witness. The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Office of Investigation began the questioning at 11:00 a.m. The summons follows allegations of political lobbying by the Unification Church, with the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project identified as a key link in these activities.

Park, who succeeded Song Gwangseok as head of the World Peace Road Foundation, is associated with the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project under the Unification Church. Song Gwangseok, former president of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), was referred to the prosecution the previous day on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, alongside President Hak Ja Han and others.

The police investigation aims to verify the activities of the UPF and the World Peace Road Foundation, with Park positioned as a central figure in the matter. The focus is on the alleged political lobbying efforts tied to the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel, which has drawn scrutiny from authorities.

The Unification Church, also known as the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, has been involved in various public and political initiatives. The current investigation highlights the organization’s engagement in activities that may conflict with legal standards regarding political funding.

The police are expected to examine the extent of the Unification Church’s involvement in the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project, which has been a significant point of contention. This includes assessing the role of affiliated groups and their financial and political activities.

The investigation underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in political matters. As Proverbs 18:17 reminds us, “The first to present his case seems right, but the one who argues his case well is considered wise.” This principle applies to the need for thorough and fair examination of all allegations.

The Unification Church has long emphasized peace and global unity, yet the current legal scrutiny reflects the complexities of navigating political and financial landscapes. The outcome of this investigation may have broader implications for the organization’s public image and operations.

The situation calls for a balance between the pursuit of peace and the adherence to legal and ethical standards. As Romans 12:18 advises, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity in all endeavors.
