Red Cross opens Reno assistance hub after Bug and Stallion fires to connect with aid
The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada, in partnership with community organizations and local nonprofits, has opened a Local Assistance Center in Reno to support residents recovering from the Bug and Stallion wildfires. The center will operate on Friday and Saturday, offering a centralized location for information, supplies, and assistance. It is located at Granite Hills Baptist Church, 10350 N. Red Rock Road, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. No appointment is required for residents seeking help.
The center brings together a variety of nonprofit organizations, community partners, and public agencies to provide recovery resources. Services include disaster assistance, health services, mental health support, and recovery information from the Red Cross. The Salvation Army will offer thrift store vouchers, while Ashlee’s Toy Closet will provide new clothing, toys, blankets, and pet supplies. Lions Club District 46 will assist residents in identifying specific needs, and Granite Hills Baptist Church will offer food and pantry essentials.
The Bug and Stallion fires burned over 134,000 acres in northern Washoe County, forcing more than 13,000 residents to evacuate. Although all evacuation orders have been lifted, many homes were destroyed or damaged, leaving families in need of long-term recovery support. During the evacuations, the Red Cross provided emergency shelter at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, offering meals, health services, emotional support, and recovery assistance.
Residents who have already received help are encouraged to visit the Local Assistance Center, as recovery needs can evolve and additional resources may become available. The Red Cross continues to accept donations to support disaster relief efforts, which can be made through RedCross.org/Donate, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
The efforts of these organizations reflect a commitment to neighbor-love and practical mercy, as described in Galatians 6:10, which calls believers to do good to all people and especially to those in the household of faith. The Local Assistance Center serves as a tangible expression of this principle, offering support to those in need with compassion and care.
