Samaritan’s Purse, the international Christian disaster relief organization, has joined forces with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) to deliver aid to Gaza. Since July 26, the ministry has sent eight relief flights carrying 169 tons of supplemental food packets, which have been distributed through GHF’s four Gaza-based hubs. A medical team of six nurses and paramedics has also been deployed to provide first aid at these distribution sites.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a private initiative backed by Israel and the U.S., was established to replace United Nations humanitarian efforts in Gaza, which Israel has restricted. The GHF is staffed with U.S. security contractors and is funded with $30 million in U.S. tax dollars and a matching contribution from Israel. It operates in remote, militarized zones known as Safe Distribution Hubs.

Despite the GHF’s efforts, more than 1,400 unarmed Palestinian civilians have reportedly been killed by the Israel Defense Forces while seeking food aid at or near these distribution sites. Aid groups and governments worldwide have criticized the operation, accusing it of violating humanitarian standards and endangering civilians during a period of severe food shortages.

Rev. Johnnie Moore, chairman of the GHF, has urged international aid groups to collaborate with the foundation. However, many faith-based organizations, including Catholic Relief Services, have expressed skepticism about the GHF’s methods and have declined to work with it. Samaritan’s Purse, however, has expressed satisfaction with the GHF’s operations.

Ken Isaacs, vice president of programs and government relations for Samaritan’s Purse, stated that he was impressed with the security and professionalism of the GHF staff during his visits to the sites. He emphasized the challenging conditions in which the GHF operates and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the foundation and other partners. The organization continues to seek ways to assist as many people as possible.
