Taiwan Food Bank Donates 29 Freezers to Schools, Churches, and Tribes for Asset Preservation
The Taiwan Food Bank Coalition recently established the first food bank sharing park in Huallin, marking a significant step in community support efforts. This initiative, launched in the first year of a notable election, focuses on resource sharing and storage arrangements, aiming to enhance food security across the region.
The coalition has donated 29 freezers to Hanyan schools, churches, and tribes, enabling these organizations to better preserve their assets. These freezers are distributed to 16 primary and secondary schools across Taiwan, including notable institutions such as Changhwa, Guanghua, NJS, Wujiang, Hong Kong, New City, Kitchen, and Sufu. The food bank has identified 13 key locations, including churches and tribes, as potential recipients for future donations.
Li Kuo-ching, a young principal at Phoenix School, highlighted the challenges faced by vulnerable families during the summer holidays. He noted that over a dozen students from these families often go without meals, relying on the Ministry of Education and county food supplements provided through community cooperative shops to ensure they are not hungry.
Despite existing refrigeration in schools, the limited cold storage space poses a challenge. Li suggested that the food bank should operate sustainably, planning for the immediate freezing of items such as water beaks, buns, fish products, and biscuits to assist families in need.
The initiative reflects a commitment to practical neighbor-love, aligning with the biblical call to justice, mercy, and humble service. Micah 6:8 reminds us that God desires people to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. This spirit of service is evident in the efforts of the Taiwan Food Bank Coalition and its partners.
